Fr. Alejandro López-Cardinale, RENEW International Presenter and Coordinator of its Hispanic Team, spoke on the upcoming collaboration between RENEW International and Revista Maryknoll, a magazine sponsored by Maryknoll Fathers and Brothers. Members of RENEW’s Hispanic team will author a series of six articles on ¿Por qué ser católico?, RENEW´s faith sharing process based on the Catechism of the Catholic Church.
Through this process of faith formation and evangelization, the small faith-sharing group participants SEE the reality of their faith through the Catechism and Scripture; JUDGE what their faith calls them to be; and with prayer and the support of their small faith communities, they commit to ACT and CELEBRATE according to that faith. The first article will address function and dynamics of small groups. The next four articles will relate to the four pillars of the Catechism as presented in ¿Por qué ser católico? The final article will address how to live out what was learned through the faith-sharing process.
Father Alejandro also spoke about the importance of Raíces y Alas (Roots and Wings) 2010, a congress held in Chicago on September 23-26, 2010 and supported by National Catholic Council for Hispanic Ministry (NCCHM), www.ncchm.org). This organization is striving to reshape itself in the current reality of Hispanic-Latinos and the Church. As a result this congress the NCCHM intends to apply the five priorities of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) to Hispanic-Latinos in the United States and, by means of group theological reflection, arrive at concrete plans to deepen the faith of Hispanic-Latinos in United States.
